On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Ronit Weiss-Berkowitz (A Touch Away) joined the Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative and The Hive at Leichtag Commons on Zoom to discuss her critically-acclaimed series. Before there was Shtisel and Unorthodox, there was A Touch Away. Like Shtisel, this show also explores the life of an observant family — in this case, in the religious city of Bnei Brak. However, the plot has a very different twist. The show is a Romeo-meets-Juliet love story about the secular son of a Russian immigrant and the daughter of Ultra-Orthodox parents. A Touch Away is a moving story of forbidden love and a powerful portrayal of what it’s like to be a Russian immigrant in Israel.
