Israeli and SDSU Students Share a Powerful Week

Last week, students from Tel Aviv University joined their peers at San Diego State University for a transformative experience that brought history to life and gave shape to hope for the future. These students came together to wrestle with questions that shape our world: How do we remember? How do we honor loss? And how do we imagine peace?

This is exactly the kind of thoughtful engagement MGSDII champions – and programs like these feel more urgent than ever. In a climate where antisemitism is on the rise, spaces for open, respectful dialogue aren’t just valuable; they’re essential.

This academic year, MGSDII is funding 10 such academic programs that bring San Diegan and Israeli students of all backgrounds, along with their professor, to each others’ campuses – including sending these SDSU students to Israel in May!

Throughout the week, students joined together to take advantage of all San Diego offers as a living history classroom, visiting Barrio Logan, the USS Midway, Balboa Park museums, and Veterans Day cultural events.

During each day’s group collaborations and over lingering meals, the buzz of new friendships and deep conversations could be felt. Conversations were varied, profound, respectful, and deeply honest.

On the final day, students presented imaginative memorial concepts inspired by modern Israeli life. Their ideas were proof that meaningful dialogue can honor the past while imagining brighter tomorrows.

In a climate where Jewish students—and those who wish to learn alongside them—can face real challenges for simply seeking dialogue, MGSDII’s mission is realized every time a student finds their voice or changes their perspective.

Thank you for believing in this work. Your support makes it possible—one story, one student, one remarkable week at a time.

We are grateful to the Gwen and Jules Knapp Family Foundation for sponsoring this meaningful collaboration.
