I was honored to participate in the California Western School of Law International Law Journal’s symposium, Indigenous Communities in the Modern Economy: An Analysis of Land Right Dilemmas in the United States and Israel. The Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative and the Law Journal crafted a dialog between experts on indigenous land rights that exposed fascinating parallels between lands, culture, and political status of disparate indigenous people around the world. Recognizing the similarities between the struggles of Native American water protectors in the United States, indigenous activists in South America, the Bedouin people of the Negev in Israel, and other indigenous communities provides us with an important opportunity to collaborate on resolving the conflicts that arise from the finite lands and resources that we call home.
