SUMMARY:We Will Dance Again
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 19th\nDoors Open at 6:45pm\nScreening Begins at 7pm\, Followed by Panel of MGSDII Visiting Israeli Professors \n\n\nJoin the Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative\, Impact Cubed\, and the Center for Jewish Culture for the San Diego premiere of We Will Dance Again\, a harrowing glimpse through the eyes of the individuals who endured the brutal October 7th onslaught at the Nova music festival. \nFriendship\, love\, and freedom- these ideals drew young hearts from around the globe to Nova’s EDM music festival in south Israel. But as the sun rose on October 7th\, the fantasy shattered. Rockets sliced through the sky\, and the music cut off. Confusion morphed into terror as gunfire erupted amidst the chaos. Hamas terrorists breached the border fence and unleashed barbarity in its rawest form. It is a stark portrayal of the experiences of those who survived and those who didn’t. The film meticulously reconstructs the horrifying events\, capturing the raw emotions and heroism that emerged amidst the senseless violence. \nFollowing the screening\, hear from a panel of MGSDII Visiting Israeli Professors\, historian Dr. Giora Goodman and filmmaker Tom Shoval\, as they share their insights on the film and their unique experiences of being in Israel on October 7th. \nThe screening is complimentary – RSVP is required.

SUMMARY:Book Club Salon with MGSDII Visiting Israeli Professor\, Dr. Dekel Shay Schory
DESCRIPTION:MGSDII Salon Members are invited to join this special one-time book club event with MGSDII Israeli Visiting Professor\, Dr. Dekel Shay Schory. \nDekel is a senior editor at Kinneret-Zmora-Dvir\, one of the leading publishing houses in Israel and teaches contemporary Israeli Literature at Hebrew University and Ben Gurion University. \nWe will read the Israeli best-seller\, Stockholm\, an ingeniously plotted dark comedy by Noa Yedlin (Kirkus\, Starred Review) about aging and friendship\, following a tight-knit circle as they attempt to hide the death of one of their best friends so he can win the Nobel Prize for Economics. \nRead the book\, then join us as Dekel leads a book club discussion and talks about Israeli literary trends. \nFriday\, March 1 at 10:30 AM. Refreshments will be served. \n Space is very limited.  The event address will be sent out prior to the gathering. \nIsraeli author Noa Yedlin is a bestselling author\, the recipient of the Sapir Prize (the Israeli Man Booker) and the Prime Minister’s Literature Award. Her deviously clever black comedy takes on death and the ties that linger. The protagonist\, Avishay\, a front-runner for the Nobel Prize in Economics\, dies eight days before the announcement. Avishay’s four closest friends know the committee won’t award the prize to a dead person\, and they vow to keep his death a secret until the big announcement. Yedlin puts her characters through the wringer with nonstop confrontations\, which are distressing to them and hilarious to the reader. At the same time\, she asks probing questions about the nature of friendship and mortality. \nDr. Dekel Shay Schory\n(Hebrew University and Ben Gurion University)\nThe Gloria and Rod Stone Visiting Professorship\nSDSU Department of English & Comparative Literature \n  \n  \n
