SUMMARY:JCC Tapestry Features Two MGSDII Visiting Professors
DESCRIPTION:The JCC Tapestry brings together educators from across the nation to offer a diverse range of hands-on learning\, thought-provoking sessions\, and engaging experiences. This year\, the event focuses on the vibrant intersection of community\, education\, and Jewish culture. Featured among the speakers are two MGSDII Visiting Professors: \nHigher Education Under Fire: Perspectives from Israel\, Europe and the U.S. Post 10/7\nJoin Dr. Nehama Lewis to hear from an Israeli Professor about the unique challenges facing researchers and educators in Israel since 10/7. Nehama’s talk will offer a personal account of her life in Israel during the war\, and the ways in which Israeli researchers have persevered in the face of internal and external conflict. She will describe the growing global threat antisemitism in academia\, and how this has affected scholarly organizations in Europe and the U.S. Nehama will also share her experiences teaching at SDSU\, where she is an MGSDII Visiting Professor. \nDisillusionment: Israel at a Crossroads\nJoin Dr. Asa Maron in this engaging talk about Israel’s future. October 7th is a tectonic event\, carrying a potential for far-reaching consequences for the Israeli society. Witnessing the Hamas atrocities\, many Israelis share how recent events change their worldview and opinion about the Palestinians\, the conflict\, and the prospects of peace. At the same time\, others use this moment to mobilize support for further military force and relocation as the only way to end the conflict. Putting recent events into historical perspective\, we will discuss the social groups and political actors who participate in determining Israel’s future. Together\, we may contemplate how can one contribute to a brighter future. Dr. Maron is an MGSDII Visiting Professor at UCSD. \nPlease click here for more information.

SUMMARY:We Will Dance Again
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 19th\nDoors Open at 6:45pm\nScreening Begins at 7pm\, Followed by Panel of MGSDII Visiting Israeli Professors \n\n\nJoin the Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative\, Impact Cubed\, and the Center for Jewish Culture for the San Diego premiere of We Will Dance Again\, a harrowing glimpse through the eyes of the individuals who endured the brutal October 7th onslaught at the Nova music festival. \nFriendship\, love\, and freedom- these ideals drew young hearts from around the globe to Nova’s EDM music festival in south Israel. But as the sun rose on October 7th\, the fantasy shattered. Rockets sliced through the sky\, and the music cut off. Confusion morphed into terror as gunfire erupted amidst the chaos. Hamas terrorists breached the border fence and unleashed barbarity in its rawest form. It is a stark portrayal of the experiences of those who survived and those who didn’t. The film meticulously reconstructs the horrifying events\, capturing the raw emotions and heroism that emerged amidst the senseless violence. \nFollowing the screening\, hear from a panel of MGSDII Visiting Israeli Professors\, historian Dr. Giora Goodman and filmmaker Tom Shoval\, as they share their insights on the film and their unique experiences of being in Israel on October 7th. \nThe screening is complimentary – RSVP is required.
